Why It Lands

Forgiveness Comes Easier Than Pride

Elizabeth says this early on, still smarting from a slight she hasn't quite let go of. She's clever enough to know forgiveness is the noble move, and honest enough to admit she's not there yet, not while her own pride is still bruised. The joke is on her, gently, because she can spot vanity in someone else from a mile off but takes a while to notice her own. Most of us could say the same about some old grudge we're still nursing on a random Tuesday, dressed up as principle.

It's easier to forgive someone else's pride than to admit you're guarding your own.
